Day 18 of 21

Humility

James 4:6

"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

Devotion

Pride is the root of all sin, the original rebellion, the lie that says we are gods. It blinds us to our need for grace, hardens us against correction, and isolates us from community. But humility—beautiful, liberating humility—acknowledges our dependence on God and our need for others.

Jesus is our perfect example of humility. Though He was God, He took the form of a servant. Though He deserved worship, He washed feet. Though He owned everything, He had nowhere to lay His head. He humbled Himself to the point of death on a cross, and God exalted Him to the highest place.

Where pride brings opposition from God, humility invites His grace. Where pride leads to destruction, humility leads to honor. Where pride isolates, humility connects. Are you humble? Do you think of yourself more highly than you ought? Do you receive correction graciously? Do you serve without seeking recognition?

Meditation Moment

Ask God to reveal any pride in your heart. Confess it and ask for humility. Pray Philippians 2:3-11 and ask God to give you the mind of Christ. Identify one way you can serve someone this week without recognition. Ask a trusted friend to speak honestly about areas where you struggle with pride.
