Children
"Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him."
Devotion
What a remarkable truth—that the Creator of the universe entrusts immortal souls into our care! Children are not accidents, burdens, or distractions from more important pursuits. They are divine gifts, holy stewardships, and living arrows to be aimed at eternity.
The psalmist calls them a heritage and a reward. A heritage speaks of inheritance—something precious passed down through generations. A reward speaks of divine favor—a blessing from the hand of God Himself. How then should we steward these precious lives? With diligence, with prayer, with intentionality, and above all, with the fear of the Lord.
Parent, you have been given a mission field in your own home. You are the first preacher your child will hear, the first theologian they will study, the first example of Christ they will observe. Do not outsource this calling! Teach them the Scriptures, model repentance and faith, pray without ceasing for their souls. The world seeks to claim them, but you must claim them for Christ.
Meditation Moment
Pray specifically by name for each child in your life—whether your own, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or children in your church. Ask God to protect them from evil, to draw them to salvation, and to use them mightily for His kingdom. Commit to one specific way you will invest spiritually in a child this week.
